Circuit 05: In 3D

For Circuit 05 we commissioned four works and ran an open call for public submissions. In the end we received 63 fluxworks from 12 countries. Our creative partner for Circuit 05: In 3D was NYC-based writer, comedian, and 3D photography aficionado, Eric Drysdale. Listen to our commissioned fluxworks and winners from the open call (“Circuit Selects”) below.

Our Circuit 05 theme (“In 3D”) and prompts were directly inspired by Eric’s vast collection of stereoscopic slides from the 1950’s. Each fluxwork:

  • Runs three minutes long

  • Takes inspiration from one of four 3D images curated from Eric’s collection and pictured below*

  • Includes the sound of laughter

  • Immerses listeners in a place, through sound (stereo, spatial, binaural recordings encouraged!)

Circuit 05: In 3D debuted June 1, 2025, at the Sound Scene Festival, in the Hirshhorn Museum in Washington, D.C.

Birdland Refracted (Milio Boogie and Kim Fox)

[Circuit Select] This deconstructed jazz experiment is inspired by avant-garde jazz and experimental sound art as we disassemble Lullaby in Birdland into scattered, flickering moments—notes stretch, reverse and collide with urban sounds, creating a sonic mosaic of the Harlem jazz scene.
